Dr. Irene Shuman and Dr. Joshua Genuth Join Bergen Oral Surgery

We are pleased to continue that tradition by welcoming two exceptional surgeons to our team: Dr. Irene Shuman and Dr. Joshua Genuth.
The expertise and dedication of Drs. Shuman and Genuth bring even more depth to our practice, allowing us to provide patients with the same comfort, confidence, and care they expect—along with new services and personalized treatment options. Meet Dr. Irene Shuman
Dr. Irene Shuman is dually trained in Pediatric Dentistry and Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. A first-generation American born and raised in Brooklyn, she was inspired to pursue medicine at an early age, and dreamed of becoming a doctor from a very young age—long before starting dental school.
Dr. Shuman earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from NYU College of Dentistry, receiving honors in Pediatric Dentistry and Research, and completed residencies in both Pediatric Dentistry and Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at Brookdale Hospital and Medical Center. She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and a member of several professional associations, including the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.
Known for a warm bedside manner that helps even the most anxious patients feel at ease, Dr. Shuman offers a full range of surgical treatments, including wisdom tooth removal and dental implants, pediatric oral surgery, bone grafting, pathology, outpatient sedation, trauma reconstruction, and cosmetic procedures. Outside of the office, she has served as a mentor and advocate for children’s oral health throughout her career and volunteered with programs such as Give Kids a Smile Day and Special Olympics Special Smiles.
Dr. Shuman is now welcoming patients in our Hackensack office.
Meet Dr. Joshua Genuth
Dr. Joshua Genuth, DMD, MD, is a highly skilled Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon and Medical Doctor. A native of Long Island, NY, he is dedicated to delivering exceptional care with a caring, welcoming demeanor.
Dr. Genuth graduated magna cum laude from Yeshiva University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology before earning his Doctor of Dental Medicine from Harvard School of Dental Medicine and his Doctor of Medicine from NYU Grossman School of Medicine. He completed his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery training at NYU Langone Health, Bellevue Hospital Center, Veterans Affairs NY Harbor Healthcare, and NYU College of Dentistry, completing a one-year general surgery internship and serving as Executive Chief Resident along the way.
Dr. Genuth provides comprehensive surgical care, including outpatient sedation, wisdom tooth removal, dental implants, corrective jaw surgery, facial trauma treatment, and oral and maxillofacial pathology. He integrates advanced technologies such as 3D printing and custom virtual surgical planning to deliver safe, effective, and personalized outcomes. Known for his approachable, empathetic demeanor, he ensures that patients feel informed, confident, and comfortable throughout their treatment.
Outside the office, Dr. Genuth enjoys spending time with his wife and son, fishing, and surfing. He has been published for his striped bass kayak fishing adventures and volunteers annually as a surfing instructor for children with special needs and physical disabilities.
